Events this year will include obedience, agility, terrier racing and tunnel race. There is no cost to enter. All events are "for fun" and education only. Any dog, rat terrier or otherwise, may enter. Our goal is to include something every dog can enjoy, regardless of age, skill or experience. More details on each event below.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each event. The first place winners will receive a ribbon and a prize. 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive ribbons. Winning points will also be earned for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each event. The dog earning the most points for the day will be named the Best In Show and receive the TOP DOG award ribbon and a prize. ALL dogs are winners though, and every dog that participates in any event gets to choose a prize to take home at the end of the day!

Event
Details
Tunnel Race - This is a timed race where the dog must run to the end of the course, go through a short agility tunnel and run back to the starting point. Two handlers will be required...one to hold and release the dog at the starting line and another to call the dog at the end of the course and see that it gets through the tunnel before being called back to the first handler. Timing starts when the dog crosses the starting line, and ends when the dog crosses the finish line. The best 3 times will take 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Obedience: Open to all dogs, from the beginning youngster to the seasoned pro. Skills judged will be typical obedience skills: Heel, sit, down, stay, etc. Dogs can be handled on leash or off, though an off-leash performance will have the competitive edge.
Agility: Open to all (small to medium sized) dogs. Equipment includes weave poles, tire jump, hurdles, tunnels and more. Dogs can be handled on leash or off, though an off-leash performance will have the competitive edge. Each dog will be timed, but scoring will be primarily based on skill and completion of each obstacle. In the event of a tie, the dog with the best time wins. All dogs will compete for the same prizes and points, however there will be separate course with lower jumps for the smaller dogs. The course and equipment will be open for practice on Friday afternoon and during lunch prior to the competition on Saturday.
Terrier
Racing: Open to all. Dogs will be raced in pairs in successive elimination heats until the top 3 runners are determined. Two handlers will be required for each dog...one to hold and release the dog at the starting line (in lieu of starting boxes) and another to call (and catch) the dog at the finish line. This event is lots of fun and requires no training, other than recall.
Ongoing
Activities Throughout the Day:
Drawings for the Ratbone Raffle
will take place between events and during the lunch break. There will be lots of great prizes and we know everyone will want to participate and support this great organization that does so much for the breed we love.
Barn Hunt Exhibition: We will have a barn hunt set up again this year, not for competition, but for everyone to try out with their dogs. Typically, a barn hunt involves a caged rat hidden amidst bales of hay. Dogs are timed to see how fast they can find the rat. In our exhibition, we will be using rat and squirrel scent rather than a live animal. It will be fun to see how much of that famous rattie prey drive our dogs have.
